De Re Militari

On Warfare, an anonymous military treatise apparently written in the late 10th or early 11th century. It was added to the Taktika of Leo VI (q.v.), and is similar in style to another anonymous text entitled De velitatione (q.v.), dated to about 975. The author is a man of extensive military experience, and his concerns center on how to conduct a campaign across the northern frontier against Bulgaria (q.v.).
